Ed Sheeran has long been no underdog – rather the acoustic equivalent to Starbucks: global, omnipresent, for many a safe grip, for others the epitome of medium mass. With “A Little more” the Englishman drops another single just a few days after his Letzigrund gigs. He does not create a radical departure, but at least an attempt to bow his own feel -good pop. Sheeran serves a blues-pop hybrid that commutes between injured heart reflection and calculated radio feed. He sings lines like «i used to love you, Now every day i hate you just a little more.» Emotional punch? Perhaps. Surprise? Rather no.
The music video has the most prominent trick: Rupert Grint, who played in the “Lego House” video of Sheeran’s doppelganger 14 years ago. This time as an ex-fan fresh from the jail, which see sheeran everywhere-as a wedding guest, security, even in the wedding dress. Nice absurd, but the effect lives more from the Harry Potter-NostalgieNeonus than from the song itself. After all: over 250 outfits in second-hand in the clip-a green hook for sustainability marketing.
