AEW fans were treated to a surprise return at the recent Dynamite tapings in New York City. Veteran commentator and wrestling legend, Taz, made his comeback to the squared circle on December 22nd, much to the delight of the Hammerstein Ballroom audience.
**The Wait is Over for the Tazmanian Devil**
Taz had been sidelined since October after undergoing knee replacement surgery. He was written off television with a storyline attack in the parking lot, setting his son HOOK on a path to vengeance against The Patriarchy, who were revealed as the assailants.
The crowd erupted as Tony Khan introduced Taz, marking a triumphant return for the former ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
**Taz Opens Up About the Surgery and Recovery Process**
While speaking about his knee replacement, Taz revealed his reluctance to undergo the procedure. “I tried everything…I’m 57, right, so I wanted to wait until I was 65 to get the replacement,” he confessed. “I just couldn’t wait. It was just brutal. I couldn’t go to work, I couldn’t walk in an arena backstage. I couldn’t walk in airports.”
Taz continued, describing his commitment to physical therapy and expressing his relief at finally having the surgery. “The knee replacement thing, I’m recovering. I’m doing a lot of physical therapy now, three days a week. I do a lot of home therapy too…The arthritis is gone. It’s nice.”
**HOOK Also Competes at the Hammerstein Ballroom Tapings**
In addition to Taz’s return, his son, HOOK, was also in action at the event. He faced off against up-and-coming talent Nick Wayne in a match that highlighted the rising star power within AEW.
