Singapore Police Investigate Prank Calls and Vandalism Targeting Officers
Singapore police are investigating a 28-year-old man for a series of hoax calls made to the police hotline and subsequent acts of vandalism involving eggs thrown at police vehicles. The incidents occurred between February 3 and March 22, 2026, culminating in the suspect’s arrest on March 23, 2026.
Hoax Calls and Targeted Vandalism
Authorities reported receiving at least 18 false reports of criminal activity during the period. Following responses to these reports on March 15, 21, and 22, officers found their patrol cars targeted with eggs after exiting their vehicles to investigate.
Suspect’s Modus Operandi
Preliminary investigations reveal the suspect allegedly obtained a mobile phone line by fraudulently using a lost identity card. This line was then used to develop the hoax calls to the police hotline. The suspect was apprehended by officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division.
Potential Penalties
The suspect is expected to be charged with vandalism. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to S$2,000 (approximately RM6,200 as of March 25, 2026), a jail term of up to three years, or both. The offense carries a potential sentence of between three and eight strokes of the cane.

This incident occurs amidst a broader trend of vehicle-related crimes in Singapore. In 2025, the country saw 245 cases involving deregistered vehicles, according to Acting Minister Jeffrey Siow.
