Sizzling Demand for Waterford’s Mobile Saunas This Festive Season

A mobile sauna business run by a Dungarvan husband and wife team is proving incredibly popular this festive season, as people embrace the great outdoors and the growing phenomenon of year-round sea swimming. The Hot Pod, run by Ed and Deirdre Flavin, has seen a surge in demand for slots this year, with all bookings snapped up on St. Stephen’s Day locations.

Established three years ago, The Hot Pod offers a unique experience, bringing the benefits of a sauna directly to the stunning Waterford coastline. On St. Stephen’s Day, two saunas were situated at Clonea Strand and The Hot Pod could also be enjoyed by visitors to Kilmurrin and Dunmore East.

Ed Flavin explains that more and more people are discovering the holistic benefits of visiting a sauna.

“It gets people outdoors to do something,” he says. “There’s healing in the sea, walking the beach, feeling the rush of blood around your body and then the heat of the sauna warming you up.”

He compares the camaraderie of sea swimming and a trip in the sauna to visiting a pub, emphasizing the social aspect and community feeling. “There’s no hangover,” Ed jokes.

“It’s like a community, a gathering bringing people together,” he continues. “We see all age groups from sixteen upwards to people in their nineties. The mixing of different groups and the different conversations – it’s going back to the old Irish way of slowing down a bit, being grounded and present in the moment.”
