Parents of students at Yvris Elementary School in Noisy-le-Grand, France, have expressed outrage after the school opened despite reported indoor temperatures as low as 8 degrees Celsius (46 degrees Fahrenheit) earlier this week. The issue stems from a heating system breakdown detected prior to the Christmas holidays.
according to the FCPE of Noisy-le-grand, a local parents’ association, the cold temperatures were experienced in several classrooms due to the ongoing heating malfunction. While repairs were completed in the kindergarten, after-school program, and cafeteria, the elementary school building remained affected.
The municipality of Noisy-le-Grand acknowledged the issue in a letter sent to parents on Wednesday, January 7th, explaining the partial repairs and outlining steps being taken to address the problem in the elementary school. Parents, like Fabrice, whose children are in CE2 and CP classes, have voiced concerns about the safety and well-being of students learning in such cold conditions, deeming it “shameful” that classes were held despite the known issue.
The situation occurred during a period of extreme cold and snowfall, exacerbating the impact of the heating system failure. Further updates regarding the full restoration of heating to the elementary school are expected from the municipality.
