Škoda Kodiaq Recall: Potential Airbag Issue Affects Nearly 50,000 Vehicles Worldwide

Škoda is recalling approximately 49,766 vehicles globally, including 12,311 in Germany, of its Kodiaq model due to a potential issue with the side airbags. The recall affects vehicles manufactured between August 21, 2024, and December 8, 2025.

What is the Problem?

Unlike previous airbag recalls often linked to the Takata scandal, this issue does not stem from a faulty gas generator. Instead, the problem lies in the design of the front seats. Škoda has identified a potential for a sharp edge on the seat frame to damage the seat cover during side impact deployment of the airbag. If the airbag is damaged or doesn’t deploy correctly, it could reduce protection for occupants in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

What Vehicles are Affected?

The recall specifically targets the latest generation Škoda Kodiaq manufactured within the following date range:

  • August 21, 2024 – December 8, 2025

Vehicle owners can check if their car is affected through Škoda’s recall actions website: https://recallactions.skoda-auto.com/ or https://www.skoda.com.cy/owners/recall-actions.

How Will Škoda Fix the Issue?

The repair process is relatively straightforward. Škoda technicians will attach a special protective material to the frame of both front seats. This material will prevent friction and protect the seat cushion from potential damage during airbag deployment. The repair is expected to capture approximately two hours to complete.

Is There an Immediate Safety Risk?

As of March 7, 2026, Škoda reports that there have been no known accidents or injuries related to this specific defect. However, the recall is being conducted proactively to prevent potential safety risks.
