Things move quickly in the world of gadgets. Blink, and you might go from wondering “What’s an iPhone?” to seeing one everywhere. That rapid change can be hard to notice at first, but after years of writing about gadgets, I’ve learned to recognize the early signs. If you’re a fan of smart glasses,buckle up.

If smart glasses are new to you, that’s okay. The technology has been developing for years, but Meta’s recent entry with glasses that actually have a display has created a buzz, especially after showcasing the Meta Ray-ban Display at its Connect conference. Meta now has five pairs of smart glasses for sale. But it’s not just Meta; Samsung and Apple are likely working on their own versions, too.

Beyond these big names, many other companies already sell smart glasses.
