Spanish Genitourinary Oncology Group to Host Scientific Symposium
The XVI Scientific Symposium of the Spanish Genitourinary Oncology Group (Sogug) will take place from December 3 to 5 at the NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding Hotel. More than 450 national experts adn international organizations will analyze the most recent advances in the treatment of prostate, bladder and kidney cancer, in addition to the main current challenges in diagnosis and treatment.
Every year, in Spain, more than 60,000 new cases of genitourinary tumors are diagnosed, representing around 15% of all solid tumors. Despite this high incidence, a multidisciplinary approach from the earliest stages and improving access to new treatments remain key challenges. Ensuring equitable, quality care for these patients remains a priority.

An urgent debate on access to new drugs
One of the highlights of the symposium will be the official presentation of the results of the Prince project (Clinical Research Project of Social Interest),a clinical study promoted by Sogug that involves 84 Spanish hospital centers. Its objective is to analyze the conditions of use in clinical practice of drugs financed for the treatment of genitourinary cancer in Spain. Coordinated by Dr. José Ángel Arranz, Dr. Aránzazu González del Alba, and Dr. Sergio Vázquez Estévez, the presentation will include Dr. María Jesús Lamas, director of the Spanish Agency for medicines and Health Products (Aemps).

In addition, a debate will be held on the strategies necessary to reduce evaluation, approval and financing times in order to guarantee early access to drugs with solid clinical evidence. “at Sogug we work closely with the Administration to identify the current barriers in this process and promote coordinated solutions that ensure that innovative therapies reach patients as soon as possible, equitably throughout the national territory,” says Dr. Aránzazu González del Alba, president of Sogug.
