Guerendo to Play Despite Sprained Foot, 49ers Key Players Questionable
San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo is expected to suit up for Thursday night’s crucial matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, according to sources close to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Despite suffering a sprained foot in their previous game against the Chicago Bears, Guerendo is determined to play and feels good, sources revealed.
The 49ers (6-7) are facing a must-win scenario in their NFC West clash, needing a victory to revive their fading playoff hopes. Their roster faces several question marks as defensive end Nick Bosa (left hip, oblique) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) are also listed as questionable. The team ruled out left tackle Trent Williams (left ankle), safety Malik Mustapha (chest, shoulder) and guard Ben Bartch (high ankle sprain) earlier in the week.
Guerendo’s Impeccable Debut
Guerendo took the reins as the starting running back after injuries sidelined Christian McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason. In his impressive first start against the Bears, he amassed 78 rushing yards and two touchdowns, adding two receptions for 50 yards before leaving the game due to his foot injury.
Despite missing practice on Monday and Tuesday, Guerendo was upgraded to limited participation in Wednesday’s walk-through, increasing his likelihood of playing.
Backup Options
If Guerendo’s ankle proves to be an issue, Patrick Taylor Jr. would be next in line to handle the backfield duties. The 49ers also have practice squad back Ke’Shawn Vaughn and recently acquired Israel Abanikanda as additional options.
Before leaving the Bears game, Guerendo etched his name in 49ers history by becoming the fourth player in franchise history to accumulate 100-plus scrimmage yards and at least two touchdowns in their first start.
