Malaga Prosecutor Seeks 22 Years for Man Accused in 2014 Murder and Subsequent Death

The Malaga Prosecutor’s Office has requested a 22-year prison sentence for Marco R., accused of the 2014 murder of Sibora Gagani, whose body was discovered walled up nine years later in a Torremolinos home. This request comes following the arrest of Marco R. For the alleged murder of his former partner, Paula, for which he is scheduled to stand trial next week .

Details of the Sibora Gagani Case

The prosecutor initially accuses Marco R. Of murder in the context of gender violence, with treachery and the aggravating circumstance of kinship, seeking a 20-year sentence for this charge. An additional two-year sentence is requested for a crime against moral integrity . The prosecution too requests a prohibition of approach and communication with the victim’s mother for five years, and compensation of €167,588 for the death of her daughter and €30,000 for the crime against moral integrity.

Marco R. And Sibora Gagani met in 2009 in Nettuno, Italy, where they both resided. In 2010, the couple relocated to Torremolinos, Spain. The prosecutor’s office notes that Sibora initially arrived in Spain using a false identity, claiming to have been born in Rome .

After periods of living together and a temporary separation in 2013, they resumed living together in a rented property in the El Calvario area of Torremolinos, where Sibora’s body was ultimately found.

The Discovery of Sibora’s Body

The prosecution alleges that during the week of July 7-14, 2014, Marco R. Attacked Sibora Gagani with a knife, inflicting at least four stab wounds, three of them to the back, resulting in her death. He then concealed her body in a room constructed within a wall on the second attic floor of the property, with the assistance of an Italian bricklayer who is not being prosecuted due to uncertainty regarding his knowledge of the concealed body .

Following his arrest in 2023 for the death of Paula, Marco R. Allegedly made spontaneous statements indicating a willingness to cooperate, stating, “This will always haunt me… Sibora is nearby, in El Calvario, in a house, buried in a wall, come on, I’ll take you there.” He initially claimed a fight “went too far,” but later denied involvement in court .

Subsequent investigations led to the discovery of Sibora’s remains, utilizing wall inspections and specialized cameras. Her remains were repatriated to Italy for burial .

Trial for Paula’s Murder

Marco R. Will also face a jury trial on March 9, 2026, for the murder of Paula, which occurred in May 2023. The trial is expected to continue until March 13, 2026 .
