Sources close to the company reveal that Spotify is in the final stages of hammering out streaming rights deals and deciding on pricing for this new tier, tentatively named “Music Pro." This move comes as no surprise, considering Spotify CEO Daniel Ek hinted last year that the HiFi tier could command an additional $5-$6 per month on top of the existing Premium price of $11.99. This aligns with Spotify’s recent trend of increasing subscription fees, as the platform looks to invest in enhanced features and content.

What’s more, Music Pro is poised to be more than just a sound upgrade. Rumors suggest Spotify might bundle additional features to justify the premium price tag. Among them are song remixing tools, exclusive concert ticket sales with early access and special deals for subscribers, and possibly even an enhanced social experience within the app.

The success of this venture hinges largely on securing streaming rights.

Spotify has been aggressively signing multi-year licensing agreements with major music labels, a development crucial to bring HiFi to fruition. Just last February, Spotify sealed a landmark deal with Warner Music Group, a move that secured streaming rights and paved the way for a future-focused audio-visual streaming vision, which likely includes HiFi.

Furthermore, Spotify’s January agreement with Global Music Group (UMG) specifically mentioned HiFi streaming as part of its vision for a “superfan” music service. This indicates that Music Pro could be designed to cater to the most dedicated music fans, providing a more immersive and exclusive experience.

Imagine exclusive perks like priority access to deluxe album releases, early music drops, private listening parties with artists, and even Q&A sessions with your favorite musicians.
