Qualcomm Confuses Us Again With New Chipset names
JAKARTA – Qualcomm keeps changing the names of its top chipsets. After releasing the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 earlier this year, new leaks show the next one, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, will come in two versions: Standard and Pro. This makes the naming system even more confusing.
This information comes from digital Chat Station, a reliable leaker from China, who posted on Weibo. According to the leaker, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be the real upgrade from the current Gen 5. The Standard version will have similar features but might be a little less powerful, possibly with a weaker graphics processor (GPU).
This isn’t the first time Qualcomm has changed things up. Starting in 2022, they used names like Snapdragon 8 gen 1, then gen 2 and Gen 3. but in 2024,they switched to Snapdragon 8 Elite, and then added “Gen 5” in 2025.Now, rumors of “Gen 6 Pro” and “Gen 6 Standard” make the branding even more elaborate.
