Empowering Women: Key to Indonesia’s Golden Future

Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) – Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Choiri Fauzi recently emphasized the critical role women play in shaping Indonesia’s future and highlighted the need to empower them across all sectors. Speaking at the commemoration of National Mother’s Day in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday, Fauzi stressed the importance of providing equal access to employment, healthcare, and political participation for women.

Strengthening Women’s Rights

Her address underscored the importance of protecting women from all forms of violence and ensuring their safety and well-being. “This theme serves as a powerful reminder of the crucial role women play in shaping the nation’s future. It presents an opportunity for us to unite our efforts towards achieving a ‘Golden Indonesia 2045,’ with women serving as the cornerstone of our development,” Fauzi stated.

Honoring Years of Dedication

The 96th Mother’s Day commemoration in 2024 carries the theme “Women Greet, Women Empowered Towards Golden Indonesia 2045.” Fauzi emphasized that this day is not just about thanking mothers for their sacrifices but also celebrating all Indonesian women for their invaluable contributions to their families, society, nation, and state.

A Historical Milestone

The history of Hari Ibu (Mother’s Day) in Indonesia traces back to the first Women’s Congress held in Yogyakarta from December 22-25, 1928. This significant event during the Dutch East Indies era was a crucial step in advocating for women’s rights and independence. The women activists who participated fought for freedom and challenged the prevalent patriarchal system of the time. “This marked a pivotal moment in the women’s movement, ushering in a new era of women’s activism in support of Indonesian independence,” Fauzi noted.

The congress brought together approximately 1,000 participants from 30 organizations across Java and Sumatra to discuss key issues like education and women’s empowerment. They rallied for the eradication of illiteracy, child marriage, women trafficking, and polygamy.

Let’s continue to learn from the past and work towards a future where Indonesian women are truly empowered and celebrated for their immense contributions.
