Chastain and Suarez Clash at Las Vegas, Former Teammates Exchange Heated Words

Las Vegas Motor Speedway was the site of a post-race confrontation between Ross Chastain and Daniel Suárez, former teammates at Trackhouse Racing, following Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race. The incident, which included physical contact on the track and a tense exchange on pit road, highlights a fractured relationship between the two drivers.

Early Race Contact

The initial friction between Chastain and Suárez occurred early in the race, on the second lap. Suárez stated in a recent vlog that Chastain crowded him while battling for position with Zane Smith, resulting in contact. Suárez downplayed the incident at the time, considering it a typical racing occurrence.[4]

Late-Race Pass and Gesture

With just a few laps remaining, Chastain passed Suárez for 17th place while Suárez struggled with a left-front tire issue. During the pass, Chastain appeared to make an obscene gesture towards Suárez.[2] Suárez acknowledged the gesture, stating it was “a little bit unnecessary” but ultimately dismissed it as characteristic of Chastain.[4]

Cooldown Lap Incident

The tension escalated on the cooldown lap when Chastain made contact with Suárez’s car. Suárez expressed concern over the maneuver, deeming it “super unacceptable” given the drivers’ loosened safety restraints at that stage of the race.[4] Similar incidents involving intentional contact on cooldown laps have resulted in penalties for other drivers, including Bubba Wallace and Suárez himself in the past.[4]

Pit Road Confrontation

The on-track incidents led to a heated confrontation on pit road. Both drivers exited their cars and engaged in a tense discussion, which included physical contact before being separated.[1]

Suárez Expresses Loss of Respect

Following the race, Suárez revealed his disappointment with Chastain’s behavior, stating he had “lost a lot of respect” for him.[4] While Suárez acknowledged their differing personalities, he found Chastain’s post-race comments “completely unacceptable” and “chicken stuff.”[4] He declined to specify the exact words that prompted his reaction.[4]

Trackhouse Past and Present

Chastain and Suárez were teammates at Trackhouse Racing from 2022 to 2025. Suárez was released from the team after the 2025 season and now drives for Spire Motorsports, while Trackhouse promoted Connor Zilisch.[1] Suárez had previously expressed feeling less valued at Trackhouse in the months leading up to his departure.[1] He clarified that his issues are not specifically targeted at Trackhouse, despite recent incidents with other drivers from the team.[4]

Suárez plans to continue his weekly vlog, “The Long Run,” with his next episode focusing on the Bristol race weekend.[4]
