Ambush in Sulu: Election Supervisor’s Brother Killed
According to a Comelec press release issued on Saturday, December 21st, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Julie’s vehicle. While Julie emerged unharmed, her brother, who was riding in the passenger seat, sustained critical gunshot wounds to the head. Asiri was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
“No words are enough to condemn this treacherous act of violence against our people. What is more gruesome and unforgivable is when a loved one is caught in the crossfire so to speak. We are not yet prepared to cry hopelessness but a call for immediate action from authorities is strongly demanded,” Garcia said on Saturday.
Colonel Kim Molitas, the Zamboanga City police chief, has assured the Comelec and the bereaved family that a newly formed special investigation task group is diligently probing the incident. Authorities are exploring multiple angles, including Asiri’s previous position as barangay chairman, to determine the motive behind the attack.
“We assure the family of Comelec… that we will leave no stones unturned until we give justice to the family of Naser,” she added. – Rappler.com
