Triplets Born in Suriname After Five-Year Gap

After a five-year interval, triplets have been born in Suriname. The newborns, Juemuel, Janora, and Remuel, were delivered at the Diakonessenhuis on February 22, 2026.

Details of the Birth

The triplets were born in quick succession, at 1:10 a.m., 1:11 a.m., and 1:12 a.m. Their parents, Anóella Wajo (26) and Denzel Brunswijk (27), are from the Marowijne district. Both mother and children are reported to be in decent health.

The delivery was overseen by gynecologist Fernando Rigters, with Dr. Wilco Zijlmaan providing aftercare and monitoring the babies’ health alongside Rigters.

Government and Hospital Response

Minister Diana Pokie of Social Affairs and Housing visited the family at the hospital, assuring them of access to available facilities to support the infants, as stipulated by current legislation. During her visit, she encouraged the father to be a dedicated and involved parent.

The hospital’s management team – general manager Russ Headley, medical director Shalini Ramautar, and nursing director Myrthel Gefferie – likewise personally congratulated the new parents.

Previous Triplet Birth

The last set of triplets born in Suriname were delivered in 2021, also under the care of gynecologist Fernando Rigters.
