SafeWork NSW Ensures Safety at Sydney Royal Easter Show 2026

SafeWork NSW inspectors are actively deployed at Sydney Olympic Park to guarantee the safety of workers and the approximately 900,000 patrons expected to attend the Sydney Royal Easter Show, which commenced on April 2, 2026. The focus is on ensuring businesses comply with work health and safety laws throughout the two-week event and during the setup and dismantling phases.

Pre-Show Inspections and Audits

Prior to the show’s opening, SafeWork NSW conducted thorough compliance inspections and safety audits. These assessments focused on critical areas such as the safe installation of food and beverage stalls, the proper utilize of personal protective equipment (PPE) by workers, and the licensing of professionals undertaking high-risk tasks. Electrical work was also scrutinized to ensure it met safety standards. SafeWork NSW confirmed these measures were taken during the “bump-in” period.

Specific Safety Checks

Inspectors paid particular attention to the safe storage of fireworks, the correct setup of fireworks displays, and the protection of workers operating at heights during the installation of amusement rides and other structures. Audits were also conducted on high-risk amusement rides to ensure adherence to Work Health and Safety Regulations, utilizing the National Audit Tool. Safety regulations are being strictly enforced by qualified inspectors and engineers.

Past Non-Compliance Issues

In the previous year, SafeWork NSW issued 23 notices for non-compliance. These notices were related to falls from heights, improper use of PPE, unlicensed work, and the use of incorrect forklift attachments.

Ongoing Monitoring and “Bump-Out” Safety

SafeWork NSW inspectors will remain on-site throughout the duration of the Sydney Royal Easter Show, monitoring compliance with work health and safety laws and responding to any incidents that may occur. Inspections will also continue after the event concludes on April 13, 2026, during the “bump-out” period.

Commitment to Safety

SafeWork Commissioner Janet Schorer emphasized the importance of safety at the event, stating the Sydney Royal Easter Show is one of NSW’s most popular events each year.
