Sydney Sweeney on ‘Christy’s’ Box Office Performance: ‘We Make Art for Impact’

Sydney Sweeney acknowledges the disappointing box office results of Christy, the R-rated biographical drama where she portrays pioneering boxer Christy Martin.

the film, directed by David Michôd, grossed $1.3m during its opening weekend, marking one of the lowest US debuts for a movie released in over 2,000 theaters.

“We don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact,” Sweeney wrote on Instagram. “And christy has been the most impactful project of my life.”

The film stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O’Brian alongside Sweeney. It follows martin’s journey from the daughter of a West Virginia coal miner to a leading female boxer in the 1990s. The story also portrays the physical abuse she endured from her coach-turned-husband and his attempt on her life. Critics offered mixed reviews,though many praised Sweeney’s performance,spanning martin’s life over two decades,as award-worthy.
