Tarija Scam: Facebook Romance Turns Nightmare – Allegations of Minor Exploitation

He director of the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc) of Tarija, Wilson Mirandareported on a series of cases generated through social media pageswhere people are recruited through false profiles and then pressured with financial demands.

The authority explained that a complaint related to this type of modality was recently received. He pointed out that a person would have been approached through a Facebook page by a female personwith whom he had exchange of information of a friendly and loving nature for a period of one month.

Later, he indicated that the situation took an unexpected turn. “Subsequently, he was surprised by the filing of a complaint by this female person alleging that she was a minor.”, he recounted.

As Miranda explained, after that accusation there was an immediate financial demand. “Immediately asks you to make a deposit of 2,500 bolivianos and this person, faced with that susceptibility, generates a deposit but for the amount of 250 bolivianos“, accurate.

The Felcc tried to follow up on the case to identify those responsible. “We have encouraged them to continue contacting this person through calls they made and we have been able to find the personbut the victim was blocked from all devicesso we could not finish locating its location,” he added.

Finally, the authority warned that These scams are becoming recurringfor which he called on the population to take precautions against suspicious contacts on social networks.
