Tata Power and Indian Oil Corporation Expand EV Charging Infrastructure on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The transition to electric mobility in India has reached a new milestone as Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL) continues its strategic collaboration with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The partnership, which aims to bolster the nation’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, has recently focused on deploying high-capacity charging infrastructure along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
Strategic Infrastructure Development
To address range anxiety—a primary concern for EV owners traveling between cities—Tata Power has inaugurated new ultra-fast charging stations on the Haryana stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. These facilities are situated at the 63rd and 69th milestones, providing comprehensive coverage for commuters traveling in both directions.
The installation at the 63rd milestone features a 240 kW ultra-fast EV charger equipped with four charging guns, specifically designed to support vehicles heading away from Delhi. By placing a corresponding station at the 69th milestone on the opposite carriageway, the companies have ensured that travelers moving in either direction have reliable access to high-speed charging.
Scaling the EZ Charge Network
This expansion is part of Tata Power’s broader initiative to create a dense, accessible charging network across India. Under the “EZ Charge” brand, the company has established a significant presence that includes:
- Over 200,000 home chargers
- More than 6,700 public, semi-public, and fleet charging points
- Over 1,200 E-bus charging points
- Coverage spanning more than 690 cities and towns
With a user base exceeding 500,000 registered customers, the network is strategically positioned in high-traffic areas, including highways, commercial depots, residential complexes, and public hubs like malls and hospitals.
A Collaborative Approach to Sustainable Mobility
The partnership between Tata Power and IOCL leverages the extensive retail footprint of Indian Oil to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles. By integrating tech-driven solutions, such as the ‘Tata Power EZ Charge’ and ‘IndianOil e-Charge’ mobile applications, the collaboration aims to provide a seamless user experience, allowing drivers to locate and book charging slots with ease.
Key Takeaways for EV Owners
- Ultra-Fast Charging: The new stations on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway offer 240 kW capacity, significantly reducing charging times for long-distance travelers.
- Intercity Connectivity: The focus on major highways and expressways is designed to facilitate long-distance travel and support the commercial EV sector.
- Digital Integration: Users can manage their charging sessions through dedicated mobile applications, simplifying the process of locating and reserving chargers.
Looking Ahead
As India continues to push for a sustainable electric mobility future, the role of strategic alliances between energy providers and infrastructure developers becomes increasingly critical. The ongoing deployment of prompt and ultra-fast charging points by Tata Power and IOCL serves as a vital step in building the “backbone” of India’s EV infrastructure, ensuring that the country’s growing fleet of electric vehicles can navigate the national highway network with confidence.
