German teacher on Sick Leave for 16 Years, Receives Full Salary

A German teacher has been on sick leave for 16 years.At the same time, she has received full salary, without having been at work for a single day. The case has aroused attention throughout Germany.

This is according to the Danish newspaper Berlingske.

The woman has been employed as a teacher in the city of wesel, just north of Düsseldorf. The first time she became on sick leave, it was justified by mental health problems. Later, she should have extended her medical statements, without any questions about this.

According to german media, the woman should have received a sum of between 5000 and 6,000 euros a month as 2009.
