Techlink Manager Kurt Van Campenhout Advises on Heating Optimization

Selecting a new heating system requires evaluating long-term investment, energy consumption, maintenance, and comfort rather than focusing strictly on the initial purchase price, Redactie24 reported.

Kurt Van Campenhout, Technical Sector Manager HVAC-S at Techlink, stated that the most advantageous heating solution depends on the total lifecycle balance.

Property owners can choose between distinct heat pump configurations based on their specific domestic setup and layout. An air-water heat pump manages both central heating and domestic hot water production by connecting to a hydronic distribution network. Alternatively, an air-air heat pump distributes warmth directly through indoor air units placed across various rooms.

Homeowners facing budget constraints can still reduce energy consumption without purchasing a brand-new installation. Preventing drafts and fine-tuning the current setup yields immediate efficiency gains in older properties.

Adjusting equipment settings lowers utility bills. Recommended adjustments include lowering the water temperature, correcting heating curves, inspecting expansion vessels, hydraulically balancing circuits, and improving outdoor sensor controls.

Neglected maintenance undermines performance, as dirty radiators and uncalibrated circuits disrupt even heat distribution. Households lacking the funds for a complete overhaul should adopt a step-by-step strategy.

Van Campenhout outlined a phased method for tighter budgets: First limit heat losses, then optimize the existing installation, and only then choose the most suitable new heat generator. Assessing thermal envelope weaknesses before buying equipment prevents oversized purchases and unnecessary expenses.
