Kompass Klub Secures Permanent Home in Ghent’s Vynckier Site

After years of nomadic existence, Kompass Klub, a prominent Ghent-based nightclub, has finally secured a permanent location at the historic Vynckier site. The move marks a significant milestone for the club and the city’s nightlife scene.

A Return to Roots

Kompass Klub previously operated temporarily within the Vynckier factory halls, but the space was undergoing renovations at the time. The club has since operated as a pop-up at various locations, including Kleindok, the Ghelamco Arena, the Weba, and even a brief stint in Antwerp. However, consistent feedback from patrons indicated a strong preference for the Vynckier site. “Uit bezoekersbevragingen bleek dat de favoriete locatie van de fans de Vynckier-site was,” stated owner Jens Grieten according to VRT NWS.

Long-Term Vision

While an initial agreement is in place for one year, discussions are underway to establish a permanent presence at the Vynckier site. Grieten expressed a strong desire to remain at the location for the long term, envisioning potential renovations and expansion if a deal is reached. “We desire our future here,” Grieten said. VRT NWS reports.

Significance for Ghent’s Nightlife

The return to the Vynckier site is seen as a revitalization of a location with a strong legacy within Ghent’s rave culture. Grieten described the site as “iconic,” stating it is “graven in het geheugen van een hele generatie ravers” – etched in the memory of an entire generation of ravers. VRT NWS

Opening and Future Plans

Kompass Klub is scheduled to reopen on October 3rd, featuring established artists and some new, yet-to-be-announced names. The club aims to contribute to the vibrancy of Ghent’s nightlife and build upon its existing reputation. VRT NWS

Jens Grieten also highlighted Ghent’s role in fostering talent within the electronic music scene, specifically mentioning artists like Charlotte De Witte, 2MANYDIS, and Kozzmozz, who have strong ties to both the club and the city. Brussels Morning and 24 Brussels both reported on this connection.
