Teen Pilot Lands Plane on Florida Road After Engine Failure
Jupiter, FL – A 19-year-old pilot, Niko Bray, successfully made an emergency landing on Indiantown Road in Jupiter, Florida, on March 6, 2026, after his Cessna 150G experienced engine trouble. Bray and his passenger were unharmed in the incident.
Quick Thinking and a Calm Demeanor
Bray, a flight instructor who obtained his pilot’s license in January 2025, was flying with a friend when the engine began to lose power. “It hit me like: ‘No, this is real … I actually don’t have any power to climb right now,’” Bray told WSVN. He immediately began searching for a suitable landing spot, ultimately choosing the busy six-lane road.
“Once you’re in that position – you just execute,” Bray explained, describing his mindset during the emergency. He managed to land the aircraft near the intersection of Indiantown Road and Maplewood Drive, close to a Home Depot store.
Eyewitness Accounts and Gratitude
The landing was captured on cellphone video by numerous motorists, showing the extraordinary scene unfold. Bray credited a bystander in a truck with slowing down traffic, which helped ensure a safe landing. “If you are watching this, sir, I want to thank you for what you did,” Bray said in an interview with WSVN.
Bray noted he was familiar with the road, having driven it “hundreds of times,” but never expected to land a plane on it.
Investigation Underway
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident, according to the Palm Beach Post. The aircraft is owned by Timothy MacDonald Aircraft Holdings LLC in Daytona Beach.
A Reminder to Appreciate Life
Despite the stressful situation, Bray reflected on the experience with a sense of perspective. He emphasized the importance of cherishing time with loved ones, stating, “You never know when the last day you get to talk to your parents or family will be, so when you get that time with them – enjoy it,” as reported by WSVN.
