A 14-year-old from Derbyshire is preparing for a Christmas to remember after completing her treatment for cancer.
Izzy was recently invited to ring the bell at NottinghamS Queen’s Medical center after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March, requiring surgery and three rounds of chemotherapy.
Now her mother Lisa is pledging to make it an extra special festive period as a reward for her courage.
And the teenager opened the season in style on Saturday night by agreeing to turn on the Christmas lights in her home village of Sawley.
Friends turn on Christmas lights after 30-year wait
Two friends fulfilled a childhood dream when they switched on their town’s Christmas lights. Izzy and Keely, from Nailsea, North Somerset, first asked to perform the honor aged eight, but were told they were too young.

They repeatedly asked the town council each year, but were always politely refused. However, this year, the council contacted them and invited them to do the honours at the annual Christmas lights switch-on event on Sunday.
“We were absolutely shocked when we got the call,” said Izzy. “We’d entirely given up hope.”
Keely added: “It was a really special moment. We’ve been asking for 30 years, and to finally do it was amazing.”
Hundreds of people gathered in Nailsea town square to watch Izzy and Keely pull the lever and illuminate the town centre.
A Nailsea Town Council spokesperson said they were “delighted” to grant the friends’ long-held wish. “It’s a lovely story and it really brought the community together,” they said.
The event also featured carol singing, festive food and drink, and a visit from Santa Claus.
