The former general director of Animal Rights, Sergio García Torresat the Ministry of Social Rights of Ione Belarra announced this Wednesday that she is leaving Podemos, whose State Citizen Council belonged, for not sharing his “strategic drift” or his refusal to enter the new coalition government.

In a letter published on social networks, García Torres boasts of having brought forward “three national laws that advance animal rights and that without a doubt open an important path in their protection,” because “they will save thousands of lives” and therefore That “more than compensates for the public exposure, attacks and even personal persecution to which I have been subjected over the years.”

After stating that the electoral result “was a moment of relief for many men and women” due to “the confirmation of the maintenance of the progress that we had promoted from the Government”, he regrets: ” Podemos has decided not to accept being in this Government, a decision that does not “I can’t share. This issue makes me step aside, not being able to continue leading my organic responsibilities in the leadership of the party, as well as my participation in the governing body of Podemos.”

“Nor can I share the absence of goals and objectives of the Sumar space, which has decided that the General Directorate of Animal Rights will not make ‘noise’ in the next legislature,” he later points out. “We have achieved progress that was unthinkable until a few years ago and the new coalition government should not be satisfied with what has been achieved; it is necessary to deepen these advances.”

“Since 2015 I embraced the hypothesis of the need to participate in governance spaces to advance rights for those who do not have a voice. I understand that the leadership of Podemos, currently, has moved away from that premise with which I agreed and participated. since its origin and the Sumar space has decided that animal protection policies are not a priority,” summarizes both criticisms.
