The departure of Irene Montero of the Ministry of Equality has not managed to bring calm to the feminist movement. The celebration of 25-N It is once again marked today by a division that is also becoming chronic in the Government. Thousands of people have taken to the streets again to call for the elimination of violence against women, but in Madrid They will do it for the second time in two different demonstrations. In the morning, classical feminism marched, recovering its official rank with the support of the new minister, Ana Redondo. In the afternoon, associations close to Podemos led by the defenestrated Montero will protest. Bicephaly, in different ideological variants, is reproduced in the calls for Balearics, Andalusia, Castilla la Mancha, The Rioja o Murcia.

It is the second time that the confrontation that exists in the feminist movement over issues such as Ley Transprostitution or the effects of the law of only yes is yes, a deep gap that during the last legislature the PSOE and Podemos were widening.

Last year there were two different marches in places far from Madrid. Traditional feminists attended the Plaza de España, where Montero’s resignation was called for, such as Amelia Valcárcel o Angeles Alvarezand three socialist ministers (Reyes Maroto, Isabel Rodriguez y Nadia Calvino). The then head of Equality went to the event in Vallecas, 6.6 kilometers away from her government colleagues.

This year the unrest has been staged in a single place. The first of the marches, called by the 25N Forum and the Women’s Council at 12:00, took place between Gran Vía and Plaza de España. It has had the presence of Ana Redondowho yesterday said in his first press conference that the only yes is yes “It is a good law that protects women,” although symbolically she distances herself from Montero by accompanying the classic feminists in their call. This march has had a large representation of the socialist wing of the Government (Pilar Alegría, Isabel Rodriguez, Diana Morant y Fernando Grande-Marlaska), as well as the president of Congress, Francina Armengol; the Secretary of Equality of the PSOE, Andrea Fernandezor the former vice president of the Government Carmen Calvosupported by CCOO, UGT and USO.

Precisely, the new Minister of Equality has called for the “unity” of the feminist movement throughout Spain to “weave the sensitivities” that have generated divisions in recent years and fight together against “all types of violence against women.”
