Verstappen’s Sao Paulo Sprint Frustration as Piastri Holds Strong
Max Verstappen was left lamenting lost opportunities after a frustrating Sprint race in Sao Paulo. Despite battling hard, the Red Bull driver couldn’t find a way past Oscar Piastri, who secured a crucial victory for McLaren alongside teammate Lando Norris.
Verstappen admitted the pace was strong from the beginning. “We just had to be patient, because in the beginning, we were just stuck in a DRS train. We couldn’t really do much, we just had to wait for people to either drop off or make a mistake,” he explained.
Turning Point – The Safety Car
His chances appeared to improve when he managed to pass Charles Leclerc, closing the gap to the leading McLarens. However, a Virtual Safety Car period changed the dynamics dramatically. “We hung in there, eventually I could pass Charles and close the gap to the McLarens, but then of course unfortunately the VSC came out – and that was race over,” Verstappen lamented.
Perez Adds to Red Bull’s Points Haul
Meanwhile, Sergio Perez provided much-needed points for Red Bull with a hard-fought race. He spent most of the Sprint involved in a thrilling battle with fellow Red Bull driver Liam Lawson, continuing their intense on-track rivalry from the previous weekend.
