Mythri Movie Makers’ Indian film “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” starring the powerhouse Allu Arjun, has smashed box office records, amassing a staggering $92.5 million during its opening four-day weekend. This impressive feat has propelled the film to the third-highest-grossing film globally, trailing only behind Disney’s “Moana 2” and Universal’s “Wicked.”

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2021 blockbuster “Pushpa: The Rise,” “Pushpa 2: The Rule” continues the captivating story directed by Sukumar. Allu Arjun reprises his role as the charismatic and audacious Pushpa Raj, a red sandalwood smuggler who navigates the treacherous underworld. As Pushpa’s influence expands, he faces formidable adversaries, including the vengeful Superintendent of Police Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat and rival smuggler Mangalam Srinu.

“Pushpa 2” stands as the third-highest Indian film of 2024, following “Kalki 2898 AD” ($141 million) and “Stree 2” ($103 million). Experts predict that it will soon surpass these figures to claim the top spot as the year’s highest-grossing Indian film.

The film’s remarkable success extends to IMAX screens. The global IMAX box office haul reached $1.4 million, garnering $650,000 from 31 IMAX screens in India. This marks the biggest local language IMAX opening in 2024 and the fourth-highest IMAX opening of all time in the Indian market.

Disney’s “Moana 2” continues its reign at the top, amassing $155.7 million worldwide during the weekend and a total of $600 million since its release. Universal’s “Wicked” follows closely behind, adding $61.7 million globally to its impressive $455.5 million total. “Gladiator II“ earned $29.4 million, bringing its total to $368.4 million, while the Chinese hit “Her Story” secured $12.2 million, reaching a total of $74.8 million.
