Kondrau Theater Group to Present Hilarious Comedy “Men Don’t Have It Easy”

The Club House Kondrau’s celebrated theater group is gearing up for its August performances, bringing laughter to Klostergasse 8 with seven showings of Regina Rösch’s delightful three-act comedy, “Men Don’t Have It easy.” The curtain rises on Saturday,August 2nd,at 7:30 p.m., marking the premiere of this highly anticipated production.

For months, the ten-member ensemble has dedicated themselves to rehearsals, meticulously crafting their characters and honing the comedic timing essential to Rösch’s work. Under the direction of Andreas Riedl, the group – renowned throughout the abbey region for its consistently high-quality productions – anticipates welcoming both familiar faces and new audience members.

The play centers around Rudolf Struppe, a contented bachelor and car mechanic portrayed by Markus Härtl. Rudolf enjoys his independence, observing the marital challenges of his neighbors with a sense of relief. However, his peaceful existence is constantly disrupted by his well-meaning but overbearing sister, Apollonia (Silvia Waidhas). Apollonia is on a mission to transform Rudolf’s lifestyle, subjecting his home to rigorous cleaning and imposing a strict diet of tofu sausages, muesli, and herbal tea, all in the hopes of making him “marriage material.” She receives enthusiastic support from friends’ wives Diana Gollwitzer and Christine Sommer, and the ever-observant neighbor Irene (Katharina Grillmeier).

Facing this domestic intervention, Rudolf’s friends – Schorsch and Willi (Andreas Riedl and Christoph Frank) – devise a rescue plan, aided by Vinzenz (Andreas grillmeier) and the self-proclaimed “women understander” Gustav (Markus Waller). Adding another layer to the mix is Charlotte Bayer (Franziska Weiß), Rudolf’s employee, whose role in the unfolding drama remains a closely guarded secret. Will their efforts succeed in liberating Rudolf from his sister’s well-intentioned tyranny? Audiences will have to attend to discover the play’s satisfying conclusion. As is tradition in Kondrau, the production incorporates local color and actively involves community members.
