Clashes between anarchists and the police took place last night in Thessaloniki, Greek media reported. There are injuries and property damage. Over 300 people were arrested.
The incidents began after 2 a.m. in front of the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University in the center of the city, when unknown persons came out of the faculty and threw Molotov cocktails at the anti-riot forces, BTA reported.
One police officer was injured and taken to hospital. He has burns on his head and neck. There was serious damage to parked cars.
A police operation ensued which continued into the early hours of today. The main boulevard “Egnatia” was closed to traffic for six hours in the area of the university. Police used stun grenades, tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
A 21-year-old young woman was also injured and was taken to hospital with breathing difficulties.
According to Sky TV, the clashes broke out during a party at the Polytechnic, attended by members of anarchist groups.
