They sanction a Civil Guard who helped a mayor flee after causing an accident

He Supreme Court has confirmed the sanction of six months of suspension of employment to a sergeant of the Civil Guard who in November 2021 went to the place where a traffic accident had occurred and facilitated that its cause, the mayor of the Cantabrian town Santa María de Cayón“surreptitiously and without warning” left the scene of the accident.

In a ruling, the Military Chamber of the Supreme Court has dismissed the ordinary military disciplinary contentious appeal filed by Sergeant Juan Antonio FD against a resolution of the Ministry of Defense, which established this sanction for an offense considered very seriouscommitted on November 6, 2021.

According to the Defense in its resolution and the Supreme Court considers it proven, around 9:30 p.m. a traffic accident occurred at kilometer point 2.00 of the CA-142 highway, in which un Toyota Yaris, driven by the mayor of Santa María de Cayón, María del Pilar del Río Ruiz de Prada, hit from behind a Seat Ibiza, in which two occupants were traveling. A few minutes later, Sergeant Juan Antonio FD appeared at the scene of the accident dressed in civilian clothes and in his private vehicle, which he identified as “the Shipyard Sergeant”, took photographs of the documentation of one of the occupants of the Seat Ibiza and the vehicle and gave his phone number to the affected person to formalize the accident report.

Moments later, two other civil guards arrivedwho had been requested by a call from the occupants of the Seat Ibiza to the 1-1-2 Emergency Service, and the sergeant told them that everything was fixed, that it was a small accident and that they had arranged to fix the report.

At one point, when the two civil guards finished speaking with the occupants of the Seat Ibiza, they realized that both the Toyota, its driver and the sergeant had left the scene of the accident “surreptitiously and without warning”, so They were unable to identify the woman or perform the usual alcohol and drug testing.
