The crystallized eggs were discovered last July during preservation work at the National Dinosaur Egg Fossil Reserve. Qinglong Mountainin the municipal area of the central city of Shiyanand were identified in December among 31 fossil eggs, the local newspaper China Daily reported today.
According to the Dinosaur Egg Research Center of Yunyangthe crystallization process of this type of eggs takes thousands or millions of years, and requires very specific environmental conditions, making it an “extremely rare” finding worldwide.
“These eggs have a high scientific value to investigate how dinosaurs laid them and so that we can reconstruct their ancient environment,” said the director of the research center, Zhao Biquoted by the media.
According to Zhao, most of the 31 eggs found in the nest had hatched.
