Sentosa Beach Club Tipsy Unicorn Shuts Down Amidst Financial Troubles

SINGAPORE – Tipsy Unicorn, a beach club located on Sentosa, has ceased operations after its operator, Tipsy Bird, was ordered into compulsory liquidation by the High Court. The closure comes as the company faces significant debt, with UOB seeking to recover over $96,000 plus interest.

Justice Chionh Sze Chyi issued the winding-up order on January 23, 2026, following an application by UOB. BDO Advisory insolvency practitioners have been appointed as liquidators to assess the company’s liabilities. According to court documents, the liquidators noted that, as of February 16, 2026, the directors of Tipsy Bird had not provided a Statement of Affairs outlining the company’s financial position, hindering a full assessment of outstanding debts. The Straits Times reported on this development on February 19, 2026.

Financial Difficulties and Closure

Tipsy Bird operated Tipsy Unicorn Beach Club at 36 Siloso Beach Walk. The licenses for operating the venue, including those for food, liquor, and aquatic facilities, were held under Tipsy Bird’s name. The landlord, Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), has taken possession of the premises. ST confirmed that SDC remains committed to finding latest operators for the space.

A notice posted at the entrance of Tipsy Unicorn indicated that operations ceased on January 30, 2026. The beach club’s Instagram profile currently states “temporarily closed,” and reservations are unavailable on its website. The closure appears sudden, as the club had been promoting events as recently as January 26, 2026.

Company Structure and Recent History

Corporate records show Tipsy Bird was incorporated in October 2018, with its principal activity listed as restaurants. Its sole shareholder is Tipsy Collective. As of February 19, 2026, Tipsy Bird is under compulsory liquidation, while Tipsy Collective remains active. The Straits Times detailed this corporate structure.

Tipsy Unicorn opened on Sentosa on September 1, 2023, according to a 2023 Facebook post by Tipsy Collective. However, Tipsy Collective’s Facebook page has not been updated since late October 2025.

Past Challenges for Tipsy Collective

Tipsy Collective has faced several challenges in recent years. Development costs for Tipsy Unicorn exceeded the initial budget, increasing from $3 million to $6 million. A legal battle for control of Tipsy Collective began in May 2024 following the death of co-founder and former group chief executive Derek Ong in August 2023. The group previously faced a salary dispute with over 100 employees in October 2024, which was resolved after shareholders injected funds to cover the outstanding payments.

Attempts by ST to contact Tipsy Collective, Tipsy Unicorn, and Tipsy Bird via various channels have been unsuccessful.
