Titans Lose to Saints 34-26
NASHVILLE – Teh Titans lost to the Saints 34-26 in their final home game at Nissan Stadium.
Here are six key takeaways from the game:
Titans quarterback Cam Ward continued to improve on sunday. He threw two touchdown passes for the fourth game in a row, completing 21 of 40 passes for 250 yards. Ward extended plays with his running ability and made throws while moving. He looked comfortable in the pocket, even under pressure. He wasn’t perfect – he couldn’t finish drives late in the game, and Saints defensive end Chase Young scored a defensive touchdown after a turnover. However, with 3,117 passing yards this season, and one game left,Ward has the first 3,000-yard passing season by a Titans rookie in franchise history, and the 21st overall – the first since Ryan Tannehill in 2021. “There were definitely some impressive plays out there,” Titans interim coach Mike McCoy said of Ward. “He keeps getting better each week, showing the kinds of plays he can make, not just the easy ones, but the difficult ones. ItS great to see him do that.”
Titans tight end Chig Okonkwo made the offensive play of the day. On a fourth-and-two from the New Orleans 43-yard line, the Titans went for it, and Ward found an open Okonkwo. Okonkwo then raced downfield, shoved off defender Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 12-yard line, and scored a touchdown. Okonkwo celebrated with a dance, and the Titans joined him. “I loved it,” Ward said of the play. “That’s a free touchdown for the quarterback, but that’s all Chig. I’m talking about spinning out of someone, doing a cartwheel, going into the end zone, hitting his dance. That’s a Chig play. That’s what we expect from him. I’m just happy he was able to do it.”
