Hilarious Squirrel Wins Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards

A red squirrel stuck awkwardly in a tree trunk has been named the overall winner of this year’s Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. The winning image, “Stuck Squirrel” by Milko Marchetti, captured the squirrel’s hilarious struggle as it attempts to enter its hide.

More Than 9,000 Entries

The competition received a record number of entries this year, with over 9,000 photographers submitting their best wildlife comedy shots. Marchetti’s image stood out from the crowd, impressing the judges with its humor and capturing a rare and entertaining moment in nature.

“Stuck Squirrel” Takes the Crown

“I have taken many, many photographs of squirrels, in many situations over the years in Italy, but this one struck me as really funny and such a strange position, because it is that exact moment when the squirrel is detaching its back legs from the trunk to enter its hide,” Marchetti said in a statement. “Whenever I show this image at the nature seminars at my local photography club, the audience always explode with raucous laughter, so I had to enter it!”

Other Winning Images

The awards also recognized other outstanding comedic animal photography, with a frog chilling in a bubble winning the “Land Mammals” category and a bream chasing a bald eagle taking the prize in the “Birds” category.
