Motorway and Dublin Port Tunnel Tolls to Increase in 2025

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has announced that tolls for several motorways and the Dublin Port Tunnel will be increasing from 2025. The increases will affect various vehicle types and are adjusted to align with inflation and ensure the sustainability of Ireland’s transport infrastructure.

M50 Toll Adjustments

On the M50, drivers of cars, buses, coaches, and lighter goods vehicles without a tag or video account will face a 10-cent increase in toll charges. Notably, vehicles registered with a tag or video account will not experience any toll increases.

For heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) exceeding 10,000kg, a 10-cent increase will apply to those with a tag and video account, while unregistered HGVs will see a 20-cent increase.

Dublin Port Tunnel Pricing Changes

Southbound traffic on the Dublin Port Tunnel will face a €1 increase during peak AM times, raising the toll from €12 to €13. TII explains this increase is necessary to prioritize capacity for HGVs, which will continue to enjoy free travel through the tunnel at all times.

Other Dublin Port Tunnel tolls will remain unchanged.

Toll Increases on Additional Roads

Eight other roads, including the M1, M3, M4, M7/M8, M8, N18 Limerick Tunnel, and N25 Waterford, will see a 10-cent increase in tolls for buses, coaches, and HGVs, except for the M3 where HGVs not exceeding 3,500kg will see no change.

For cars on these roads, there will be no increase except for the M4 Kilcock to Kinnegad, where a 10-cent increase will apply.

Justification for Toll Increases

According to the TII, these toll increases reflect the 1.7% rise in the consumer price index between August 2023 and August 2024. The adjustments are aimed at maintaining the efficient operation and upkeep of Ireland’s vital road infrastructure.
