Toronto’s East End Experiences Widespread Power Outage
A significant power outage plunged parts of Toronto’s east end into darkness on Saturday night, impacting over 5,000 residences in areas including East York and southwest Scarborough. As of Sunday morning, restoration efforts are underway, but many residents remain without power.
Details of the Outage
The blackout began shortly before 8 p.m. On March 7, 2026, affecting several neighbourhoods. Specifically impacted areas include The Beach, Upper Beach, Leslieville, Taylor-Massey, Woodbine Gardens, Oakridge, Birchmount Park, and Scarborough Junction . The outage stretched from Greenwood Avenue in the west to Brimley Road in the east, south along Queen Street East and Danforth Road, and north to Danforth and St. Clair avenues .
Cause and Response
Toronto Hydro has attributed the outage to a “loss of supply from Hydro One” . The electricity company is working closely with Hydro One to restore power. Initially, over 13,000 customers were affected, but the number has since decreased to over 3,000 .
