Ethan Hayter (Soudal-Quickstep) claimed victory in the four-kilometre prologue of the first edition of the NIBC Tour of Holland.
Hayter narrowly defeated young Australian Cameron Rogers (Lidl-Trek), who had led for most of the stage, beating him by just 0.28 seconds.
Jakob Søderqvist secured third place, completing the podium for Lidl-Trek, just 0.44 seconds behind Hayter.
“It’s really nice to finish the season so well, adn there were just two tenths in it,which is nothing,” Hayter said. “I was really close to a medal last week at the European Championships – less than a second off – and now it’s the othre way around,so I’m really happy.”
“I’ve really got back to my best in the time trials this year. It’s been really nice. I have to thank the team for believing in me and giving me all the best equipment to go as fast as possible.”
Rogers, nephew of ex-pro Michael Rogers, was disappointed not to win but remained optimistic.
“I beat some big names still, so I’m pretty happy, and I still get to wear a jersey going into tomorrow. I’m pretty happy, but also a bit bummed,” Rogers said.
