Toy Story 5 Teaser: Screens Are the Enemy

is the Age of Toys really Over?

That is the fateful question posed by the new teaser trailer for “Toy Story 5,” released by Pixar on Tuesday, which picks up on the familiar parenting conundrum about screentime.

The brief clip, set to the strains of INXS’ “New Sensation,” shows Bonnie, now a young woman, packing for college. As she sorts thru her belongings, she pauses, looking wistfully at a box filled with her childhood toys – including Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang.

“I’ve grown up,” Bonnie says in a voiceover. “But have I outgrown them?”

The trailer ends with a shot of Woody looking forlorn, and the question hanging in the air: Is the age of toys really over?

“Toy Story 5” is scheduled to be released in summer 2025. The original “toy Story” debuted in 1995 and revolutionized animated filmmaking. It spawned four sequels, all of which were critical and commercial successes.

The new film is directed by Tim Allen and Tom Hanks, who reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively.
