Lincoln University Sprinter Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Fellow Athlete

Jefferson City, MO – A Lincoln University track and field athlete has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of her boyfriend, also a track and field athlete at the university. The incident occurred off-campus in Jefferson City, Missouri, early Monday morning.

Details of the Incident

Kevaughn Goldson, 23, a senior sprinter from Kingston, Jamaica, died from injuries sustained in a stabbing. According to the Jefferson City Police Department, officers responded to a home in the early hours of Monday morning and transported Goldson to Capital Region Emergency Room, where he was later airlifted to University Hospital. He died during surgery KOMU 8 News.

The Accused: Denita Jackson

Denita A. Jackson, 27, also a senior sprinter at Lincoln University, from Berbice, Guyana, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action KOMU 8 News. Jackson allegedly called police to report the stabbing KOMU 8 News.

Reported History and Motive

Court documents reveal a history of domestic violence within the relationship between Goldson and Jackson People Magazine. Jackson reportedly told investigators she believed Goldson was having an affair with one of her roommates. She allegedly found Goldson in her roommate’s bedroom after returning home early and entering the room with a hairclip New York Post.

According to court documents, a physical altercation ensued. Jackson allegedly jumped on Goldson, and a fight broke out. She then reportedly stabbed Goldson in the back and chest with a knife she retrieved from under the bed New York Post.

University Response

Lincoln University has expressed its condolences and offered support to the community. “Our thoughts are with family, friends, faculty, staff and all who have been impacted by this tragic situation,” the university said in a press release New York Post. The university reminded students and employees of available counseling and support services.

Jackson is currently in custody at the Cole County Jail.
