Trentino Province Councilor Angeli Leaves Majority, Eyes Forza Italia

Trento, Italy – Eleonora Angeli, a provincial councilor in Trentino, has left the Noi Trentino for Fugatti Presidente group, signaling growing divisions within the region’s center-right coalition. The move, described as a result of “irreconcilable differences,” comes mid-legislature and raises questions about the stability of the governing majority.

Departure and Reasons Cited

Angeli’s departure was announced with a brief, “institutional” statement from the civic group led by Deputy Governor Achille Spinelli. According to Angeli, the decision stemmed from a lack of a shared vision for the future of Trentino. “There is a great necessitate for a project for Trentino. Of a true, real proposal,” she stated, adding that she seeks a “policy of passion, of sharing, of people’s involvement.”

The breaking point appears to have been a recent vote on a motion of no confidence against councilor Gerosa, where Angeli voted against the majority. She explained her reasons during a speech prior to the vote, highlighting fundamental disagreements within the coalition.

Political Background and Future Prospects

Angeli, who was elected in October 2023 with 837 preferences, has a political history rooted in the Margherita party. She expressed a desire for a more collaborative and structured approach to politics, contrasting it with the current dynamics within her former group. “In the group I was in, there was sensitivity and individuality with evident difficulties in uniting the differences,” she said.

Although she hasn’t officially confirmed a move, Forza Italia is widely seen as her likely destination. Angeli emphasized that she isn’t seeking a “home” but rather a “fresh phase” and a platform to pursue a broader political project. “It’s not the parties that make the plans, but the people,” she noted.

Recent Shifts in Regional Leadership

Angeli’s departure follows recent changes in the regional government. In May 2025, Francesca Gerosa was removed from her position as Vice President, with the role reassigned to Achille Spinelli. This change also saw Spinelli taking on responsibility for family affairs, while Gerosa retained her portfolios in education, culture, youth and equal opportunities. Source: Alto Adige

The decision to remove Gerosa from the vice presidency followed tensions related to a vote on a bill allowing a third mandate for the President of the Province and the government’s challenge to the Trentino regional law before the Constitutional Court. Source: RaiNews

These developments underscore a period of political realignment within the Trentino region, with potential implications for the stability of the governing coalition.
