Tribes of the City’s “Evidence of Embrace” Signals a Strong Return to Shoegaze
After a seven-year hiatus, Latvian shoegaze band Tribes of the City has released their fifth studio album, “Evidence of Embrace,” on February 6, 2026. The album is already garnering attention for its blend of melodic soundscapes and experimental elements, building on the success of their previous operate, “Rust and Gold,” which won both the “Austras balva” and the “Mikrofons” award in the alternative music album category.
A Familiar Yet Fresh Sound
Cultural journalist Kaspars Zaviļeiskis, a content producer for the program “Kultūrdeva” and a member of the jury for “Kilograms kultūras,” highlights the album’s ability to maintain the band’s signature sound while exploring new sonic territories. Zaviļeiskis suggests the band wisely chose to refine their established style rather than reinventing themselves.
“Evidence of Embrace” is available for streaming and in physical formats, including a striking aqua blue vinyl with deep red splatter and an audiocassette. Bandcamp offers digital and physical album purchases, as well as a deluxe vinyl edition.
Live Performances Scheduled
Tribes of the City will be performing songs from “Evidence of Embrace” at concerts on February 27th at the “Angārs” concert hall in Riga and February 28th at the “Fontaine Palace” rock club in Liepāja.
Other Cultural Highlights
Kaspars Zaviļeiskis also recommends Laura Gundar’s new novel, “Zāže nost!” published by “Dienas Gūmta,” praising its stylish design and thought-provoking themes. He spotlights exhibitions by Gints Gabrāns and Andris Breže at the Riga Contemporary Art Space, noting Gabrāns’ exploration of artificial intelligence and Breže’s revival of a previously exhibited installation featuring large saws and wooden wheels.
