True Green Announces New Album, ‘Hail Disaster,’ Shares Steve Irwin-Inspired Single “Bindi Sue”
Minneapolis-based indie rock project True Green, led by songwriter Dan Hornsby, is set to release its second album, Hail Disaster, on March 26 via Spacecase Records. The announcement comes with the release of a new single, “Bindi Sue,” a tribute to the late Steve Irwin and his daughter, Bindi Irwin.
A Tribute to the Crocodile Hunter
Hornsby shared on Instagram that “Bindi Sue” is a tribute to Steve Irwin and is named after his daughter, Bindi, who was herself named after Irwin’s dog. He noted he was a big fan of Irwin as a child, describing him as “a lovely guy.” The song features musical contributions from Dustin James, who designed True Green’s merchandise, with James writing “the spine of the music” for the track.
From ‘My Lost Decade’ to ‘Hail Disaster’
True Green’s debut album, My Lost Decade, was released in 2024 on Spacecase Records. The project’s name draws inspiration from both medieval nun Hildegard of Bingen’s concept of viriditas and, somewhat ironically, a lawn care company. Hornsby is also a novelist; his debut novel, Via Negativa, is currently being adapted into a film starring Lee Pace.
Hail Disaster is described as a darker and warmer follow-up to My Lost Decade, exploring themes of tragedy, both real and imagined, including family cruelty, the darker side of fandom, doomed love, and the death of Hornsby’s uncle from AIDS.
Critical Acclaim and Recognition
True Green has garnered attention from several publications. Stereogum named their song “Consider the Priesthood” a gem, comparing it to the operate of Alex G. Racket praised Hornsby’s “lyric-drunk indie rock,” even as The Current described the project as “a nice walk in the Minnesota sunshine.” The band was also named a Minnesota artist-to-watch by Racket. They have been featured on The Best Show with Tom Scharpling, The Current, and Triple J.
‘Hail Disaster’ Tracklist
The tracklist for Hail Disaster has not been publicly released as of March 10, 2026, but includes the previously released singles “Italian Lightning” and “How To Draw Hands,” in addition to “Bindi Sue.”
