A Rare glimpse Inside Russia’s Secret Nuclear Bunker
Table of Contents
For decades, it lay hidden beneath teh streets of Moscow, a relic of the Cold War – a massive, secret nuclear bunker built to protect the Soviet Union’s leadership from a potential attack. Now, for the first time, journalists have been granted rare access to this underground complex, offering a chilling glimpse into a world prepared for the unthinkable.
Known as “Object 800,” the bunker is a sprawling network of tunnels and chambers dug 65 feet below the city.Construction began in the 1950s, spurred by fears of a devastating nuclear strike from the West. It was designed to be entirely self-sufficient,capable of housing hundreds of people for extended periods.
The bunker’s infrastructure is remarkably preserved. Visitors can see the command center, complete with maps and interaction equipment, where Soviet leaders would have directed the country during a crisis. living quarters, tho spartan, are equipped with beds, furniture, and even a small infirmary. A sophisticated ventilation system, designed to filter out radioactive fallout, remains intact.
“This is a monument to a time of extreme tension and fear,” says historian Pavel Palazchenko, who accompanied the journalists on the tour. “It’s a reminder of how close the world came to nuclear war.”
Object 800 was never actually used for its intended purpose. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 rendered it obsolete.Today, it stands as a museum, a stark warning about the dangers of nuclear proliferation and a testament to the anxieties of a bygone era.
The opening of the bunker to the public is a critically important event, offering a unique opportunity to understand the Cold War from a new perspective. It’s a sobering experience, but one that underscores the importance of working towards a world free from the threat of nuclear annihilation.

Trump Backs Honduran President Released From US Prison, Endorses Candidate
Former President donald Trump celebrated the release of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández from a U.S. prison, and endorsed Nasry “tito” Asfura for Honduras’ presidency, signaling a potential shift in U.S. policy toward the Central American nation.
Hernández had been convicted in March 2023 of drug trafficking and weapons charges. Though, his conviction was overturned earlier this month after a U.S. appeals court found that the evidence used against him was obtained through illegal means. He was released from prison on Monday and is expected to return to Honduras.
A lawyer for Hernandez, Renato C. Stabile, expressed gratitude for Trump’s actions. “A great injustice has been righted and we are so hopeful for the future partnership of the United States and Honduras,” Stabile said. “Thank you President trump for making sure that justice was served. We look forward to president Hernandez’s triumphant return to Honduras.”
A separate lawyer for Hernandez, Sabrina Shroff, declined comment.
The post was part of a broader message by Trump backing Asfura for Honduras’ presidency, with Trump saying the U.S. would be supportive of the country if he wins. But if Asfura loses the election this Sunday, Trump posted that “the United States will not be throwing good money after bad, as a wrong Leader can only bring catastrophic results to a country, no matter which country it is indeed.”
Asfura,67,is making his second run for president for the conservative National Party. He was mayor of Tegucigalpa and has pledged to solve Honduras’ infrastructure needs. But he has previously been accused of embezzling public funds, allegations that he denies.
In addition to Asfura, there are two other likely contenders for Honduras’ presidency: Rixi Moncada, who served as the finance and later defense secretary before leaving to run for president for the incumbent democratic socialist Libre party, and Salvador Nasralla, a former television personality who is making his fourth bid.
