Tsleil-Waututh Nation Continues Hastings Racecourse & casino Acquisition Despite Leadership Change
New Leadership, Unwavering Focus
The Tsleil-Waututh Nation is pressing forward with its plans to acquire Hastings Racecourse and Casino, despite recent changes in its leadership. Justin Sky George recently won the election for Chief, succeeding Jen Thomas, and the Nation welcomed three new councillors to its six-member council.
Recent Agreement Paves the way
the pursuit of the lease began under the previous leadership, with Jen Thomas announcing a non-binding memorandum of understanding on June 6th. This agreement outlines the potential acquisition of the casino business license and associated properties from Great Canadian Entertainment.
Commitment from the New Council
Despite the shift in governance, the acquisition remains a key priority for the Tsleil-Waututh Nation. Councillor Dennis Thomas, who was re-elected, confirmed that the new council addressed the matter during its inaugural meeting this past week, signaling a continued commitment to the project.
