TSMC will build its first chip factory in Europe in Germany for more than 10,000 million

TSMCthe world’s largest chip manufacturer, will build its first factory in Europe in Dresden (Germany) with an expected investment of more than 10,000 million eurosof which a relevant part will be public investment.

Thus, the Asian manufacturer will commit some 3,500 million euros, while the German State would subsidize the installation with 5,000 million euros, according to the Financial Times. In addition, it is expected that the project will receive European funding through the instruments included in the Law European Chip.

TSMC The factory will operate, but it will rely on local partners for investment. Thus, the entity will have 70% of a joint venture in which the local chipmaker Infineon will have 10%, the same percentage that they will have Bosch and the American NXP Semiconductors.

The complex will employ 2,000 workers and construction will begin in the second half of 2024 with the aim of starting production in 2027. The factory will produce 40,000 chips per month, aimed at use in industry and the automotive industry.

With the arrival of TSMC, Germany confirms itself as the major European recipient of investment to increase production in Europe in the chip industry, since it will also house another Intel.
