Luke Tully Makes History as William & Mary’s First NCAA All-American in All-Around Gymnastics
Luke Tully has achieved a historic milestone for William & Mary athletics, becoming the first student-athlete in the program’s history to earn NCAA All-America honors in the all-around competition. This accomplishment came after his outstanding performance at the NCAA Finals on April 18, 2026, where he competed in all six men’s gymnastics events: floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.
Historic Achievement at NCAA Finals
Tully’s performance at the NCAA Finals capped an impressive postseason series for the William & Mary gymnast. His all-around excellence was recognized through USA Gymnastics Collegiate All-America honors, marking a significant milestone for the Tribe’s men’s gymnastics program. The achievement represents the first time any William & Mary student-athlete has attained All-American status in the all-around discipline.

Understanding the All-Around Competition
For those unfamiliar with gymnastics scoring, the all-around competition requires athletes to compete in all six events that comprise men’s gymnastics. Tully explained the format simply: “All-around is when there are six events for men’s gymnastics—floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, high bar.” Success in this discipline demands consistency and skill across vastly different apparatuses, making it one of the sport’s most challenging accomplishments.
Building on a Successful Freshman Season
This historic accomplishment builds upon Tully’s already impressive freshman campaign. During the 2024-2025 season, he led the Tribe to the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals and earned individual All-American honors by placing fourth all-around at that competition. His rookie year also included recognition as Rookie of the Week and top finishes on the horizontal bar.
Despite early struggles—including a difficult start where he fell on every single event in his first meet—Tully credited a teammate’s advice for helping him overcome adversity. The guidance to focus on positive memories and feelings from past successes helped him reframe his mindset and improve his performance throughout the season.
Looking Ahead
As Tully returns for his sophomore season, he aims to build on this historic achievement and continue being a key asset for the William & Mary men’s gymnastics team. His dedication to improvement and ability to learn from setbacks exemplify the resilience that defines elite collegiate athletes.
The Tribe’s gymnastics program continues to gain recognition through athletes like Tully, whose accomplishments inspire teammates and elevate the program’s standing in collegiate gymnastics.
