Two cayucos in which 178 immigrants were traveling arrived today, Sunday, at the islands of The iron y Gran Canariaaccording to sources from Maritime Rescue, Emergency and Safety Coordination Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2 y Red Cross.
One of the cayucos arrived at the island of El Hierro with 99 people on board, all of them of sub-Saharan origin, proceeding to transfer a pregnant woman and a man to the Hospital Nuestra Señora de los Reyes for assistance.
The location and rescue operation began minutes after 01:00, when the Civil Guard informed the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Tenerife of a canoe sailing 10 miles south of La Restinga.
The Rescue Coordination Center immediately mobilized the rescuers Adharawho sighted the cayuco half an hour later and proceeded to escort it to the port of La Restinga, in the municipality of Pinewoodwhere the disembarkation ended around 02:50 hours.
There were 79 men, 7 women and 13 minors in the canoe, including 2 babies and 1 child. The healthcare system evaluated all of them and proceeded to transfer a pregnant woman and a man to the Hospital for assistance, due to different pathologies.
