Atlanta – The film industry mourns the loss of Steve Mensch, President and General Manager of Tyler Perry Studios. Mensch, a respected leader in the Georgia film community, tragically died in a plane crash in Homasassa, Florida, on Friday night.
A Beloved Figure in the Atlanta Film Scene
Tyler Perry Studios confirmed Mensch’s passing in a statement, expressing their heartfelt condolences and remembering him as a “cherished member” of their team. His positive presence and contributions to the Atlanta film community were widely appreciated.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens also remembered Mensch, highlighting his commitment to film and entertainment in the city. “He was a trusted friend and supporter of the Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment,” Dickens stated.
From Feature Systems to Tyler Perry Studios
Mensch’s career in the film industry spanned several decades, starting with Feature Systems, a leading equipment supplier. His roles at Turner Broadcasting, where he managed studio operations, further solidified his expertise. He later served as president of Third Rail Studios before joining Tyler Perry Studios in 2016.
Lee Thomas, Director of the Georgia Film Office, described Mensch as “more than his impressive resume” – a genuinely warm and supportive friend who was always willing to help. The Georgia Film Office expressed their deepest condolences to Mensch’s family, friends, and colleagues.
Investigation Ongoing
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the plane crash that took Mensch’s life. The single-engine Vans RV-12IS, registered to Mensch, crashed along a highway in Homasassa, Florida, around 8 p.m. on Friday.
The film world has lost a valuable member.
